Annual Turkey Shoot, Nov.. 20, 2011

So far we have been blessed with the most beautiful weather for our monthly shoots, God willing and the creek don’t rise it’ll continue to bless us.

After another outstanding potluck, Trapper called the meeting to order.

Randy gave treasurer report. Motion made by Sven to accept the report and pay the bill.  Wendy seconded the motion, all in favor.
It was discussed once more and silent voted on whether to go back to Wilson Creek or stay at Rowdy Creek for our monthly shoot.  The majority was in favor of staying at Rowdy Creek.
Once again we must be reminded of safety.  Absolutely no smoking around powder horns.  Any violators may get blasted.  All PeeWees must be supervised at all times when they are practicing with a hawk or knife.
I would like to thank the people that were able to make it to our last cleanup.  A big thank you goes out to: Randy, Don, Reena, Aura and Joyce.  You all did a wonderful job.

The winners for our monthly drawing are:  Don and Jesse.  Don won a leather pouch with a wooden needle holder inside (all handmade by Aura).  Jesse won a leather pouch with earring inside (donated by Diane because Dave forgot).  Thank you Diane, once again you saved the drawing.  You owe her Dave.
Speaking of messing up, once again someone forgot to take down our flag.  Will the kind hearted person that took it down please remember to bring it to our next shoot?  Thank you.

Our next shoot will be our Annual Turkey Shoot.  It’ll only cost ya $15.00 for a chance to win a turkey and a ham.  There will be plenty more fun shoots so bring lots of dollar bills.  And don’t forget your long bows.  The fun will start at 9:30 Sunday, Nov. 20th.

We will have another cleaning party Saturday, Nov. 19th so hope to see every able bodied persons out there to get it ready for the shoot.

I would like to welcome back our wonderful guests, looks like we’re just about ready to vote in some new pilgrims.  Looking forward to seeing all of you again.

Thank you Lucky for the wonderful pickled jalapeños.  She’s buying votes and has mine, they are delicious.

A word from our president:

For all our club members. There are no fiber optic sights allowed at our monthly shoots. Only iron sights, in the period of the mountain man era. That means you too Grey One. Trapper John  Hope all of you hunters are filling your tags so we don't have tag soup for our next club shoot. I know one tag was filled. Robert got a forked horn with his flintlock. Good luck to all.

Ya Never Knowed

By Robert DeGenova, Grey One

Down on my luck powder low,
Broken ramrod I just don’t know.
There be six injuns waitin on me,
Took me an arrow below the knee.
Stopped the bleedin I’ll wait and see,
Prime my pistol, hold it close to me.
Got my knife and hawk right there,
They ain’t a gonna lift my hair.
I heard em a comin, slow but sure,
None of em sayin a single word.
Startin to smell em, must be close,
They snuck in like devil ghosts.
Twigs start snapin far and near,
I think the end is really here.
One snapped right next to me,
I looked over to see what I could see,
Well low and behold for what I did see,
Was a reared up grizz lookin right at me.
I didn’t move, I didn’t stir,
The only noise that could be heard.
Was injuns runnin through the brush,
I guess some would call that luck.
Now I used up my last straw,
From the pan to the fire, as I recall.
But somethings different, somethings weird,
The grizz is still here but shows no fear.
Still standin and waving his paw,
I noticed a scar deep and broad.
For this cub grizz was caught in a trap,
That I let go two winters back.
He looked at me and me at him,
And I swear I saw a little grin.
Well he went his way, I went mine,
Hopein to see each other another time.
